The Mares
Eva
Eva, a 20 yrs. young Arabian, is the matriarch of the program and the most experienced trail horse in the herd. She is 14.2 hh and smooth as butter to ride! However, she is also a hard-headed Alpha mare and requires a "discussion" rather than a demand from her rider. She does best with our equally hard-headed program participants. Eva is afraid of nothing, has a need for speed and absolutely LOVES the trail.
Merida
Our little chestnut Arabian sporthorse wonder has one of the best temperaments in the herd. Standing at only 14 hh, 10 year old Merida is probably the most compliant ginger mare on the planet. She will not argue with her rider, and she prefers to be told what to do. Her trot is like a jackhammer, though, so we usually start new riders on her bareback so they quickly learn balance and centering ;)
Astrid
She is the youngest horse in the program at 9 years old and falls in the middle of the pecking order. Just under 15 hh, Astrid is ALL LEGS and would have been a runway model in another life. Her ground-covering strides require a little more experience from her rider, so she is usually ridden by the program director. She is a purebred Arabian and was formerly used as a broodmare, but shows great talent as an endurance horse, even if she sometimes forgets where her feet are...
The Geldings
Percival
The newest member of our herd, 14 year old purebred Arabian, Percival, has a bit of a mysterious past. He was obviously very well trained and has the smoothest slow "lope" of any horse we have. He is also an Alpha and therefore does not get along with Eva AT ALL. The geldings subsequently have their own pasture. Percy is small, standing only 14.1 hh, but very stoutly built. He has a definite upper limit on his speed but we are still getting him into condition, as he arrived at EE quite emaciated last year.

Beaujolais
Beautiful Beau is our A-lister, arriving at EE from Horse Plus Humane Society (Hohenwald, TN) in December of 2024. He stands just under 16 hh and is believed to be a purebred Arabian, though we have yet to do a DNA test on him. He has a lot of trust issues and was assigned to one of our veterans, Brian, to work with him on the ground before we ever put a saddle on him. Beau is an absolute dream to ride, though he lacks confidence and needs a brave rider to take him through his first endurance competition. Beau has won over everyone at EE, volunteers and parents of the staff, alike.
